Initial Notification: On May 8, 2018, the USCG Sector New Orleans notified the NOAA SSC of a Hazardous Materials release at a terminal in New Orleans that resulted in 3 persons being exposed to a hazardous material. As a safety precaution, Nola Terminal and Ports of America shut down operations, evacuated the surrounding area and isolated the tanks in question. One tank, carrying Crude Turpentine (UN 1993), had off-gassed from the pressure relief valve. Air monitoring was conducted, the evacuation was lifted and operations resumed. Their are no further public safety concerns and operations are back to normal. Personnel from the Coast Guard are doing well and have been released to go home. The tanks will continue to be isolated and monitored while in port. Case closed. NRC# 1211589 <<NOTIFICATION ONLY>>
