Initial Notification: On January 2, 2018, the USCG Sector New Orleans contacted the NOAA RRO regarding a discharge from a Hilcorp energy facility located in Bastian Bay, Louisiana. The discharge was due to the failure of a valve on a bulk separator. The exact details of the sump and drainage system failure, as well as the secondary containment failure, are still under investigation. USCG estimated the total amount discharged to be approximately 8 BBLs, with 4 BBLs reaching the waterway and the remainder contained within the facility's secondary containment.
