Initial Notification: On May 20th, 2017, Delta flight 159 was in a holding pattern at 28,000 feet over Lake Michigan for the purpose of dumping fuel before diverting back to DTW. The flight dumped approximately 177,300 lbs / 26,462 gallons of Jet A fuel. USCG Sector Sault Ste Marie is requesting information about the fate of jet fuel released at altitude.
