On September 5, 2016, the U.S. Coast Guard notified the NOAA SSC of a release from an underwater pipeline in Bay Long, Louisiana, a sub-estuary of Barataria Bay. A trajectory and resources at risk was requested. The USCG reports that the discharge is approximately 125 BBLS (5250 gallons) of crude oil from 12" transfer line belonging to Harvest Pipeline, a subsidiary of Hilcorp Energy. The discharge was the reportedly the result of an marsh excavator striking the pipeline. The pipeline has been shut in, OSROs are en-route, and USCG Sector New Orleans is sending pollution responders.
