Atchafalaya Basin, LA | 2015-Mar-18

Initial Notification: On 18 March 2015, the NOAA SSC was contacted by USCG MSU Baton Rouge regarding a minor but ongoing release of crude oil into the Bayou Sorrell Frog Lake area. The release is believed to be associated with residual oil from abandoned flowlines in the area. As water levels have risen in the last few weeks, the abandoned lines have become submerged and residual oil is suspected to have been mobilized. USCG has initiated containment and recovery operations and has requested assistance with determining the source of the oil.
