Initial Notification: On February 4th, 2014, USCG Sector Detroit notified the SSC of a spill that occurred on the Detroit River near Detroit, MI. At approximately, 1215 local time, the USCGC MACKINAW released approximately 400 to 1,000 gallons of marine diesel into the Detroit River while fueling. The river had approximately 6/10 ice coverage at the time of release. Sector Detroit requested a trajectory for worst case discharge (1,000 gallons) as well as information on the possible fate of the product.
