Initial Notification: On December 27, 2013, the Coast Guard notified the NOAA SSC of a small crude oil spill in Barataria Bay, Louisiana. A faulty valve on a pipeline resulted in the release of approximately 2 barrels of crude oil into a marshy containment area surrounding a pigging station. Some of the product had been drawn into the adjacent waterway by tidal action, staining the wrack line and filling the rip-rap. Clean-up activities are underway and expected to continue through Dec 28.
