Initial Notification: On November 12, 2013, USCG Sector New Orleans contacted NOAA SSC about a mystery sheen reported in Quarantine Bay, 8 miles north of Buras, LA. The sheen appears to be from a pipeline near a decommissioned platform. The overflight estimated that 200 gallons of crude oil is on the surface, creating a sheen of 3 miles by 3/4 miles. USCG is requesting a trajectory from NOAA at this time to determine potential shoreline and resource impacts.
