Initial Notification: On Thursday night, 29 September 2010, the NOAA SSC was notified by MSU Galveston of a well leak in the Gulf of Mexico. The location is far offshore (more than 100 miles SSE of Galveston, Texas) and roughly 25 miles W of the West Bank of the Flower Garden National Marine Sanctuary. The RP stated the well, when producing, was primarily a gas well; there was an observation of some oil or condensate coming from the well that created a 10 mile light sheen yesterday.
