Initial Notification: On 12 May 2009, the regional NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator (SSC) was notified of a crude oil spill in Venice, Louisiana. The USCG reported that 20 bbls of oil was lost into an adjacent marsh from a pipe failure during a pressure test. The oil is contained in a small pond and fringe marsh area immediately adjacent to the facility. The USCG requested that we assess the potential use of in-situ burning to mitigate the spill.
