Initial Notification: On Friday morning, 8 May 2009, the regional NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator was notified by the USCG of a chlorine release from a facility in Hahnville, Louisiana. Eleven workers were reported to have been exposed. The release was reported at 10:26 AM (local time) and the NOAA was notified for support just a few minutes after that time. The actual release was reported to have started at 8:59 AM and was estimated at 2 lbs/min. of chlorine. NOAA was asked to provided the USCG with information as to the immediate threat area and downwind concerns.
