Initial Notification: A freight train car carrying molten sulfur derailed and sprung a leak on Saturday, 7 March 2009. The USCG notified the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator of both the damaged rail car leaking molten sulfur and several reported empty hazmat rail cars that contained only residuals of anhydrous ammonia and styrene monomer. The hot molten sulfur created an air threat forcing an evacuation.
