Baton Rouge, LA | 2008-Jan-14
Initial Notification: On the evening of 14 January 2008, the NOAA SSC was notified by the HAZMAT Duty Officer of an incident on the Mississippi River near Baton Rouge, LA. A barge carry 4000 bbls of Calcium Chloride solution capsized for reasons unknown at present. The barge has been pushed to the river's edge, and a salvage crew is responding. The RP reports that the barge is not leaking, but that would be very difficult to assess given that the product is heavier than freshwater.
