Initial Notification: On 14 January 2008, the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator was notified of a small spill near Deer Island by the USCG MSU Morgan City. The report stated that the source was secure, but three to five barrels for crude oil was lost to the environment. The MSU requested a Resources at Risk (RAR) Assessment for the area. The reported location places the spill near the Atchafalaya Delta Wildlife Management Area in South Louisiana.
