Initial Notification: On 17 May 2007, a USCG Pollution Investigation Team conducted an over flight of a reported 40 bbl crude oil spill adjacent to South Pass on the Mississippi River Delta. The location was identified as South Pass 24. The USCG reported that the spill was well contained by hard boom and within wetland habitat. NOAA was notified of the incident at this time, but since the scale of the problem appeared small and there were no need for specific on-scene NOAA support, the Scientific Support Coordinator provided only verbal consultation to the USCG until a site visit on 26 June.
