Initial Notification: At approximately 1700 CDT the NOAA SSC was notified by MSU Galveston of a pipeline leak in position 28? 13.4'N, 094? 11.08'W (approximately 27 nm northwest of West Flower Garden Bank and 70 nm southeast of Galveston TX). Type of oil and amount is unknown at this time. A 1600 overflight reported the slick as 1.5 nm X 0.9 nm film containing dark colors and rainbow sheen. An additional overflight is being conducted today and another flight is scheduled at first light tomorrow. NOAA was requested to provide a trajectory and weather forecast. The ASSC is on standby should additional support be needed. USCG district 8.
