Initial Notification: On the morning of 8 September, the M/V Don Stephens struck a submerged object and spilled diesel fuel into the Ohio River near Cairo, IL (location of spill is near mile marker 976). The spill has a potential release of 5000 gallons of diesel fuel oil. It has been reported that approximately 1,000 to 2,000 gallons of fuel may have been lost. USCG district 8.
