Initial Notification: On the afternoon of 18 April Coast Guard Activities Baltimore received a report from the Master of the Tug ATLANTIC STAR that the barge, ST112, that they were pushing ahead was aground at the intersection of the Tolchester Channel and the Brewerton Channel Eastern Extension in the Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, MD. The barge was reported to contain 4.2 million gallons of #6 fuel oil that had been loaded in Philadelphia at 158.6 degrees F. By 2000 hours lightering of product from the ST112 into barge VB 50 began. By midnight, enough product had been transferred such that the ST112 could be moved to the Amerada Hess Terminal in Baltimore without further incident. USCG district 5.
