Initial Notification: Two days after a large container full of boxes of ammonium nitrate fell off the freight barge, Whitestone II, in 300' of water at the junction of Chatham Strait and Frederick Sound, MSO Juneau contacted NOAA to determine whether or not there were any adverse consequences they should be aware of. The container was a regular steel shipping container, 8- x 8- x 20-feet, and the ammonium nitrate was in cardboard boxes, wrapped with plastic, and inside the steel container. A total of 33,500 pounds of chemical, in solid form, was in the container. Weather at the time of the incident is uncertain. USCG district 17. Keyword: none.
