Initial Notification: NOAA was notified of the incident on February 5, 1995, by the USCG. The SSC studied the sheen's movement and the trajectory to assess potential resource impacts. NOAA estimated that there were 20 to 30 gallons of diesel fuel on the water. If wind and sea conditions increased as forecasted, the sheen would quickly break up and disperse. The SSC also reported that about half of the total amount spilled would have evaporated or dispersed by the time the sheen was noticed. No major environmental impacts were expected or observed.
