Initial Notification: MSO Wilmington received notification on March 14, 1994, of a fire and oil spill from Gatlin Oil. Oil was reported outside the facility and in drainage ditches leading to North and South Prong creeks. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Management reported that the fire and spill may have been the result of vandalism. The maximum potential release based on the amount of tankage was 80,000 gallons. USCG district 5. Keyword: sorbent boom, sorbent, hot water/steam.
