Initial Notification: ON Thursday, March 26th the vessel G.H. VANDERBRGH SENIOR was boarded by Customs officials. The vessel is tied up on the Miami River at 3300 River Drive in Miami, Florida. The vessel is carrying 400 15-gallon drums of Calcium Carbide. Each drum weighs approximately 100 pounds. During the boarding two of the drums were opened. The Dade County HAZMAT Team responded to the vessel and overpacked the two drums. Further inspection noted overturned and dented drums. The Coast Guard COTP has ordered the evacuation of the ship and is planning to offload the vessel. The NOAA SSC, Gary VanDenBerg, and the USCG Gulf Strike Team are in-route. USCG district 7.
