Initial Notification: T/B Hygrade 22 grounded in the Connecticut River near Haddam, Connecticut at 0300 local time, November 18, 1997. Captain of the Port (COTP) Long Island Sound (LIS) was notified and responded at 0330. The barge was carrying 700,000 gallons of #2 fuel oil. No oil was spilled. The USCG Atlantic Strike Team (AST) responded to the scene and oversaw the lightering of the barge. Equipment was pre-staged at identified sensitive areas from the Area Contingency Plan and others identified by the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection (CTDEP). High tide was at 1500 and the barge refloated at 1515. There were no leaks and no oil was lost. After refloating, the barge continued on to her destination. USCG district 1. Keyword: none.
