Initial Notification: On the morning of September 4, 1991, the fishing vessel JUSTIN TIME, owned by Peter Pan Seafoods, accidentally ran aground on the west side of Sozavarika Island with 20,000 pounds of halibut, 250 gallons of diesel, and 4 to 5 gallons of hydraulic fluid onboard. The engine room was breached by a large rock. The weather was southwest winds to 10 knots increasing to 25 knots in the afternoon with 4- to 6-foot morning seas increasing to 12-foot by evening. The crew abandoned ship and was rescued by a nearby fishing vessel. USCG district 17.
