Initial Notification: On June 19, 1991, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Office (MSO) Honolulu was notified that the fishing vessel HUI FENG NO. 1 had run aground on the coral reef at the entrance to Palmyra Atoll (5° 52' N, 162°7' W). Initial reports told of sheen coming from the vessel that was supposedly carrying 27,000 gallons of diesel. The USCG requested that the Pacific Strike Team respond to the scene. USCG district 14.
