Initial Notification: At about 2345 on September 7, 1989, a steering casualty caused the 564-foot SAN JUAN VICTORY to run aground in the James River, Virginia. The vessel carried 420,000 gallons of diesel fuel. By 0230 tugs were on-scene to attempt to remove the vessel from the shoal. USCG district 5.
