Initial Notification: At about 2000 on March 2, 1989, the tanker EXXON HOUSTON, with 90,000 barrels of Prudhoe Bay crude oil aboard, broke loose from her moorings at an offshore terminal off Barbers Point, Oahu, Hawaii, during offloading operations. The vessel subsequently grounded 0.7 miles off Barbers Point. A wing tank containing Bunker C fuel oil was damaged when the EXXON HOUSTON ran aground, spilling approximately 2,200 barrels of oil. USCG district 14.
