Initial Notification: On November 24, 1988, Doe Run Lead Company reported that its barge ACO-501, loaded with 1,400 tons of 93% sulfuric acid, was missing. The U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, St. Louis found that the barge had sunk in place at the loading dock. Soundings indicated that the cargo remained in the barge. USCG district 9.
