Initial Notification: On September 29, 1988, the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office (MSO), Miami, received a report of an oil slick one mile offshore of Pompano Beach. A boat from Coast Guard Station Ft. Lauderdale took samples and reported that the slick was 75 yards offshore, and estimated the slick's size as approximately 200 gallons spread over a three-mile area adjacent to the shore. USCG district 7.
