Initial Notification: During the early morning hours of December 4-5, the U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office (MSO), Charleston, received a report from the tug Jennifer L. Boudreaux that its towing line to the tanker barge Ocean Transporter had parted. The barge, carrying a cargo of 7,000 short tons of para-xylene in bulk, was taking on water and sinking approximately 120 nautical miles east of Charleston. The barge sank stern first; neither the bow nor any of the cargo tanks sustained any apparent damage. USCG district 7.
