Initial Notification: During the night of December 16, 1987, the 700-foot long coal carrier, Meister Stersinger, ran hard aground at high tide on sand bottom about half a mile off the Cape Henry light house in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The vessel was fully laden with coal and carried 235,000 gallons of bunker fuel in its double bottom. USCG district 5.
