Initial Notification: On December 14, 1987, the wooden fishing vessel NOBANDEER was reported sunk at Spring Wharf, Newport, Rhode Island No owner of the vessel could be immediately found that would attempt the salvage and remove the vessel from the pier. The U.S. Coast Guard placed a boom around the sunken vessel to prevent the loss of diesel fuel into the environment if a release should occur. The vessel's diesel fuel on board at the time of the sinking was an estimated 500 gallons. USCG district 1.
