Initial Notification: At 1407 on December 2, 1987, U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office inspectors noticed a strong, pungent odor during an inspection of a container vessel at Pier 24, the Maersk Container Terminal. The cargo manifest listed the contents of the vessel, which had been stacked upside down in the container, as 100% tetrahydrofuran solution, bound for Singapore. The County Office of Emergency Service and the California Office of Emergency Services, dispatched personnel to the scene of the incident. USCG district 12.
