Initial Notification: At 2010 on July 28, 1987, the U.S. Coast Guard Captain of the Port, Alameda, California, was notified by the Richmond Police Department that a Rhome Chemical Company tank truck had hit an embankment and overturned in downtown Pittsburg. The truck was carrying two 20,000 gallon tanks of diesel fuel. The diesel tanks appeared to be intact, although a bank of machinery batteries had been crushed, resulting in a leak of approximately 15 gallons of battery acid (sulfuric acid). The tank truck driver was injured in the accident. The Richmond Fire Department reported to the scene. USCG district 12.
