Initial Notification: On September 3, 1986, approximately 10,000 gallons of Bunker C fuel was spilled from the M/V Falcon Duchess into the St. Johns River at Jacksonville, Florida. The spill resulted from an overflow of the ship's fuel oil settling tank during an internal fuel transfer. An oil sheen was reported on the St. Johns River extending from the Trout River to the Ortega River. The heaviest concentrations of oil were located in the shipyard and downtown Jacksonville area.
