Initial Notification: On May 28, 1986, a 55 gallon Dow Chemical Company drum, placarded as Vinyl Ester Resin - Derakane 411-45, UN# 186, washed upon the beach in Humboldt Bay, California. The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Office, Alameda, California was notified of the incident by the local county sheriff's office and Coast Guard Group, Humboldt. A sample was taken of the residue, and it was determined that approximately 20 gallons of product remained in the drum. USCG district 11.
