Initial Notification: On May 6, 1986, a 600-pound storage battery was dropped from a pallet onto the concrete floor of a battery storage facility warehouse on the U.S. Coast Guard base in Alameda, California. The two quarts of concentrated sulfuric acid which were spilled were contained in a puddle on the floor. The three Coast Guardsmen who were exposed were sent to the medical facility for treatment and observation, and were later released. USCG district 11.
