Initial Notification: On April 9, 1986, 700 gallons of methyl ethyl ketone overflowed a tank into the sewer system at the Anerchol Chemical Company in Mamaroneck, New York. The Mamaroneck Fire Department ordered an evacuation of the area as a precautionary measure. Anerchol Chemical Company employees used sand to create barriers to contain the methyl ethyl ketone, and boomed the facility's drainage system and the city sewers while firefighters flushed the product with an alcohol-based foam.
