Initial Notification: On March 8, 1986, the Amerada Hess Oil Company spilled an unknown amount of No. 2 oil into the Arthur Kill at Port Redding, New Jersey. The majority of the spilled oil remained in the Arthur Kill, although some may have drifted beneath the Varrazano Narrows Bridge, and out into the Lower New York Bay. The oil tended to collect in the Arthur Kill along piers and bulkheads, staining pilings and seawalls. USCG district 3.
