Initial Notification: On February 13, 1986, an MLC310 barge carrying 11,000 tons of salt was cut adrift when its tow line parted in the NOAA National Marine Sanctuary off the coast of Northern California. Subsequent attempts failed to rejoin the barge to its tug, Sandy, and the barge went hard aground approximately one-half mile south of Bolinas Point. USCG district 11.
