Initial Notification: At approximately 0340 on October 18, 1985, a collision between the Kate Maersk, a tanker which had just concluded discharging cargo to the Louisiana Offshore Oil Port (LOOP) terminal, and the barge Ocean Trader, which was bunkering the Kate Maersk, resulted in the release of an estimated 20,000 gallons of Bunker C fuel oil about six miles southeast of the LOOP platform. USCG district 8.
