Tug Seneca; Lake Superior, MI

Initial Notification: During a storm, the 80+ foot Tug Seneca grounded in 3 feet of water. The tug is carrying 1900 gallons of diesel fuel and 50 gallons of lubricating oil. No oil has been released at this time. Marine Safety Field Office Sault Ste Marie contacted NOAA ERD for assistance in determining the feasibility of monitoring the vessel via satellite imagery. DOI/Bur. of Indian Affairs has been contacted by the USCG and Mike Ripley a fisheries biologist for the Chippewa & Ottawa Resources Authority (a tribal organization) has responded regarding concerns over tribal fish resources.
