Initial Notification: On August 11, 2006, the tanker M/T Solar 1 sank offshore of Guimaras Island, near Iliolo, in the central Philippines. The vessel was carrying an estimated 2 million liters of bunker fuel for a local powerplant. The vessel is reported to be sunken in 700 meters of water. A substantial but unknown amount of oil has leaked from the vessel, oiling shorelines on Guimaras Island. The USCG Pacific Strike Team is responding and has requested NOAA HAZMAT support.
