Initial Notification: At 0530 local time on August 1, 2006, a small spill was reported at a Chevron Platform at Main Pass 77A in Breton Sound, louisiana. The cause of the spill was reported as an equipment failure. An estimated 84 gallons of crude oil was spilled into the water, creating a 1 mile by 100 ft sheen. The sheen was reported to be moving west to east. USCG contacted NOAA Hazmat with a request for a trajectory and analysis of whether the Breton and/or Chandeleur Islands were at risk.
