Initial Notification: At approximately 1030 hrs on 1 February 2006, NOAA was notified of a crude oil release from a facility located offshore of the Mississippi Delta (Main Pass Block 299). An estimated 30 bbls of 34 API gravity crude oil was released to the Gulf of Mexico due to an equipment failure. The incident was discovered at 0900 hrs, and the leak was secured immediately afterwards. The USCG is preparing to conduct an overflight of the site to assess the slick. NOAA has been asked to provide a trajectory and will probably participate in the overflight. The facility is operated by Freeport/McMoran.
