Initial Notification: On the morning of June 12th an equipment failure on an oil rig caused the release of an estimated 8-12 bbls of LA crude oil. Initial reports noted some shoreline impacts and bird mortalities in the vicinity of Breton Island, LA. This is within the Breton Island NWR. Latest reports now indicate significant pelican mortalities.
