12 Pole Creek Coal Tar Distillate Spill; Huntington, WV

Initial Notification: MSO Huntington WV contacted the Western River SSC in reference to a coal tar distillate spill. A railcar released 23,000 gallons of product onto the ground which then flowed into Krout Creek which flowed into Twelve Pole Creek a tributary of the Ohio River near river mile 312. A underflow dam was built and boom was deployed to contain and prevent coal tar from moving any further downstream.
