Initial Notification: Vessel lost steerage, but not power. Continued to drift until it grounded on shallow rock reef/ledge. 2-3 days after grounding the vessel unexpectedly caught fire and burned to the water line - M/V Capt Jack was an older wooden vessel. Approx. 50 gallons of diesel released from the day tank causing considerable sheening. Later, a landing craft was able to pump out 2400 gals of diesel from main fuel tanks which were below the water level when vessel burned and not compromised. NOAA support was weather, trajectories from Seattle, tidal heights and currents.
