Initial Notification: On February 28, 2004, NOAA received a report that the T/V Bow Mariner caught fire and exploded causing it to sink approximately 50 nautical miles off the Virginia Coast. The vessel was carrying 1150 metric tons of ethanol and 700 metric tons of #6 fuel oil. The oil was recovered and the ship was salvaged.
