Initial Notification: On October 7, 2026, the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Detachment Ketchikan contacted the NOAA Scientific Support Coordinator (SSC) regarding a mystery sheen in Thorne Bay, Alaska. The Harbor Master reported a sheen near the sea plane dock at the harbor. The source of the sheen is unknown. The USCG is requesting any satellite imagery that may show the extent or origin of the sheen.
